Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: The Missed Call; Weber on Waivers The Vancouver Canucks' offensive woes continued as they fell 2-1 to the Dallas Stars on Sunday at Rogers Arena. A disallowed second-period power play goal sparked a discussion for more video review on goaltender interference on scoring plays.

Those calls have a way of evening out so not going to female dog about it.

Lehtonen is in Vezina for this season. The Stars really had no right winning that game - it was all him. Not that they aren't a good team but the Canucks were all over them for most of the game.

Under the current rules, goaltender interference is non-reviewable.

Good goaltending is changing a lot of teams fortunes so far this year. Dallas, Anaheim, Colorado, Toronto, Tampa are all "riding" great goaltending. Keeps proving to be the most important position bar none....

From the previous discussion:
Leftcoaster-
"Honestly at this point I'm ok with a few loses, it'll force Fat face to go out and get a top six forward. "

I couldn't agree more. It's what was missing last year and is still missing this year. I was hoping someone would step up, and nobody has or a rookie like Horvat would have stuck and it didn't happen.

If he isn't going to acquire or can't acquire a top 6, then trade and get some picks or prospects because it isn't going to get any easier at this rate to get into the playoffs.

Over-reaction? I am not sure, struggled last years to put the puck in the net and it has continued this year. I like Torts' approach and effort, don't think that is enough.

Daniel doesn't look dangerous lately, I am not sure if it is confidence or not, but his shots have looked weak and routine, he needs to get his mojo back.

edit: what I forgot to comment was Leftcoaster's choice of the word "force", GMMG was forced to trade a goalie, but he sure waited until the 11th hour to do so.

It's also interesting to note that when said teams lose that elite goaltending how mediocre they look. Colorado looks pretty average when their G isn't stopping 95% of shots.

Definitely need to make a few trades or something to acquire more offense. We aren't going to win many games scoring 2 or less goals. Gillis needs to get off his ass and do something!

Carol, any word on where & when the Canuck Thread Christmas Party will be this year? Mainland or the island? I think Lefty hosted the Summer BBQ Mixer poolside on the island last summer so I suspect Vantel might be willing to host on the mainland.

His hands are pretty well tied though aren't they? Zero cap room unless you clear some and anyone selling right now is asking ridiculous prices. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that loss wasn't due to bad play. Just lack of finish(surprise, surprise) and a very good goalie.

As much as I dislike the Canucks, That was a really bad call by the Ref's. That goal should have tied it. The rules need to be changed. That was clearly a good goal..

I hate it when the Ref's decide a game by a bad call, And this happens way to much in the NHL.

I see video Challenge coming in the next few years. But what should be the penalty if the coaches get it wrong?

Pretty much. No point trading away prospects or draft picks and roughly 2/3 of the team has NTC's. Might have ride out this year with out a playoff appearance and re-tool in the off season. Early in the season still but confidence is not running high.

As much as we'd all like Gillis to make a move for a top 6 player, we just don't have the room/ available pieces to do it. He's tied himself down with NTCs, and can't afford to trade away the young guys/picks. He had a good draft last year, but the cupboard is still a bit bare for my liking.

Gillis' chance to address the top 6 scoring was through the Schneider trade, and he chose to go with youth instead. It sucks for now, but Horvat could be a contributor in 2 years or so.

This year isn't the year to make any trades. It would be a good idea if we aren't going to be competitive to let Gillis go after this season and try and make a run for Connor McDavid next year's draft. We really need someone of that calibre to maybe one day be great again. I get the feeling we're going to slide farther into irrelevency and mediocrity if we don't.

I don't like the idea of tanking for a pick, but if we are just going to be a wildcard team, if we are lucky, we should look at acquiring youth and picks and give some of our limited prospects a chance...

And after having a quick look at who will become ufa, who would be of value to another team... I guess options are pretty limited and tdl will be the time to make moves, no rentals unless they come with picks or other plus...

Just an FYI that Cap Geek is projecting that we have $5.6m in available cap space at the deadline ($2.8m right now).
